Suzuki Philosophy

The Suzuki Method was created over six decades ago by Japanese violin teacher, Dr. Shinichi Suzuki. Recognizing that the principles of learning a language could be applied to learning music, Dr. Suzuki made careful listening, repetition, teaching a little at a time, and positive reinforcement the cornerstones of his lesson plans. Suzuki also believed that a nurturing environment is crucial to a child’s ability to learn and grow. Thus, he made parents an integral part of the music learning process.

To date, more than 25,000 children all over the world are trained by Suzuki’s method. And, the Suzuki Method has since been applied to other instruments including cello, viola, flute, piano and guitar.

The Huntington Suzuki Music School, established over 30 years ago by Libby Clemens, is based upon the Suzuki tradition, and now is a part of Huntington Center for Performing Arts. Under the concerned and caring eye of teacher and you, the parent, your child is taught to love and appreciate music. Together, we will provide an atmosphere of encouragement – the foundation for learning.
