ARIANA ROSEN – Violin, Viola, Fiddling

Known for her versatility of musical styles, violinist Ariana Rosen enjoys performing and teaching a wide-ranging repertoire. Ms. Rosen’s classical ambitions began at the age of four after repeatedly asking her mother to play the violin. Throughout her secondary education years her studies expanded to other styles including International Folk Music and Old- Time Fiddling.
Since receiving her Bachelor of Music in Classical Violin Performance from the Manhattan School of Music in May of 2005, Ariana has been freelancing and teaching in the greater New York City area. In June of 2007, she received her Suzuki Certification from the School for Strings in NYC. Soon thereafter, Ms. Rosen was employed as an Instrument Coach for Primary Stages’ Off-Broadway production of Michael Hollinger’s play, Opus. Her most recent performing endeavors include appearances with DCINY, Please Music Works, Live Music Productions, Bianchi Musica, Silhouette Quartet, Daniel Zaitchik, Goodbye Picasso, Kiara Duran, Shelly Bhushan, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, Astoria Symphony, New Jersey City University Orchestra (associate concert master), American Idles Irish/Rock Band and Fiddling Fusion violin duo. She and her sister, Amberly were featured in the 2005 San Luis Obispo, California Mozart Festival where they performed Old-Time Fiddle, International Folk Dance music and their specialty; Fiddle-dancing. The Rosen Sisters returned to California during the summer of 2008 for a series of six concerts, a fiddle workshop and recorded their first album. In January of 2010, the Rosen Sisters were featured at the Golden Festival in NYC. Along with her performing, Ms. Rosen teaches privately in Manhattan and is on faculty in the music department at St. James’ Church in Manhattan and at the Huntington Suzuki Music School in Long Island.

ELIZABETH YOUNG - Suzuki School Director, Violin, Piano
Elizabeth Young is a musician with a wide variety of interests and abilities. She joined the violin and piano faculty at Huntington Center for Performing Arts in 2006, and in 2008, she was named Music School Administrator. During her time at the school, her students have successfully performed in solo recitals, group performances, and other concerts in Suffolk County. They have also received top scores in NYSSMA in Levels 2-6.
Elizabeth began her studies on the violin and piano at age 3 and has since performed in the United States and in Europe as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra member. Elizabeth moved to New York City in 2004 to study at Manhattan School of Music, and she earned her Master of Music degree in 2006. Before moving to New York, she studied for four years at the North Carolina School of the Arts and earned both her High School Diploma and Bachelor of Music degree.
With an outstanding reputation as an orchestral musician, Elizabeth has performed with and served in leadership positions in many chamber ensembles and orchestras, including the Albany Symphony Orchestra, The Chelsea Symphony, Claremont Ensemble, Da Capo Opera Company, Distinguished Concerts International Orchestra, Green Mountain Opera Festival, Illuminations Festival Orchestra, Manhattan Chamber Sinfonia, Manhattan Symphony Orchestra, Miami Symphony Orchestra, NCSA Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, the Texas Music Festival Orchestra, and the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, where she was chosen in 2008 by Jaime Laredo for a violin position. She also regularly serves as the Concertmaster of the New York Opera Society Orchestra.
Elizabeth is an active freelance musician and teacher in New York City, where she has been seen in performances at Barge Music, Carnegie Hall, NY City Center, Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Radio City Music Hall, St. John the Divine Cathedral, Trinity Church at Wall Street, World Financial Center, and the United Nations. She has also performed at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. As a result of these performances, Elizabeth has appeared on the BBC, CBS, and CNN.
Elizabeth is married to Jeremy Levine, and they live in Manhattan but enjoy spending time together on the weekly commute to Huntington.

JOHANNA YOUNG -Voice, Violin, Piano
Soprano, Johanna Young resides in New York City where she has been performing in recitals and opera scenes across the city and tri-state area. She made her Carnegie Hall debut this spring with renowned Australian Guitarist, Rupert Boyd performing the works of Villa-Lobos. Her recent roles include Paquette in Candide, Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Tessa in The Gondoliers, and in scenes, Susannah (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Dorabella (Cosi fan tutte). Her orchestra performances include Susannah (Susannah), and Mimì (La Bohème). In 2008, Johanna participated in Fayetteville State’s Third Summer Opera Series, The Marriage of Figaro as Cherubino. A graduate of Wake Forest University with Honors in Music Performance, Johanna was a recipient of the Christian Cappelluti Prize for outstanding musical merit and promise. A native of North Carolina, Johanna began her violin and piano studies in the Suzuki method at the age of 3. While at Wake Forest, Johanna continued her violin and piano studies by performing as both violinist and violist in chamber ensembles across the Piedmont, and various piano/accompanying competitions across in the area, receiving the highest marks. She began coaching musical theater students, and teaching violin and piano privately during her time at Wake Forest. She continues to perform on both instruments throughout the northeast. While in North Carolina, Johanna studied with Teresa Radomski, and Barbara Caprilli. She currently studies with Catherine Mazzone and Giovanni Reggioli. Johanna teaches privately in the city and is on faculty in Long Island at the Huntington Center for Performing Arts and in Larchmont, NY at the Larchmont Music Academy.

LEAH ZELNICK – VIOLIN, PIANO
Leah Zelnick is currently in her fourth year toward a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Stony Brook University, where she studies with Philip Setzer, Soovin Kim and, until this year, Pamela Frank. She received her Master of Music degree in 2007 from Stony Brook, under Ani Kavafian, Pamela Frank, and Philip Setzer. Her Bachelor of Music degree is from Cleveland Institute of Music with William Preucil.
Leah has performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the world, including Korea, Japan, Italy, Germany and Austria, England, and Denmark. One of her greatest honors was being chosen to perform for the Crown Prince and Princess and an audience of thousands at the Opening Ceremony for the 13th World Suzuki Convention in Matsumoto, Japan in 1999. Orchestral participation also includes the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in Salzau, Germany, the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, Colorado, the Viva-Vivaldi Orchestra in Washington D.C., and the National Youth Orchestra in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania under Leonard Slatkin. She attended Interlochen Arts Academy for several summers and was awarded the Governor’s Scholarship for the state of Iowa in 1999.
An active performer of contemporary music, Leah has participated in the premiere of several works, one dedicated and written for her by colleague Tyler Capp entitled “Rag-theka”. Leah remains dedicated to teaching and is currently working toward Suzuki certification. She was part of the Quartet-in-Residence at Allegheny College for summers of 2002 and 2003, and the Quartet-in-Residence at the Upper Valley Music Festival in the summer of 2007 with teaching and performing tours of Vermont and New Hampshire.
Leah currently is the Graduate Assistant for Student Media in the Department of Student Activities at Stony Brook and maintains a private studio, in addition to other teaching positions in Eastern Long Island. This is her first year teaching violin and piano at the Huntington Suzuki Music School.
